Devil and Pitfall Review by Abubis

There are a total of seven endings, some “bad” endings which do not include NSFW scenes. Others, which do, are listed on the steam page so you can see the exact content they include on the chance it is not something you’d want to experience. Each scene becomes very obvious to what it will lead to as well, so with the steam page’s ending information, you can easily access the scenes you want to see. Due to this there isn’t really any slowburn or build up, the game is focused on experiencing spicy scenes with the obsessive Devil, who wants you all for himself.

Currently, the state of the English translation is fantastic. After a rough release I know the devs worked hard on correcting this, and the change is very noticeable. The text is now much more smooth, and makes perfect sense. If you were following this game prior to said update, I would strongly recommend giving this a go now.

Due to the short length of the game, there are certain features that a lot of visual novels tend to include, that this does not. For example, there is no skip text function. To combat this, every time there is an influential option, the game suggests a save. There is also not too much text in the game to worry about skipping. If you do not want to go through the basic gameplay of exploring to find the endings – which are based on the route you take in the pit – you can simply go to the Memory room, and it unlocks all the endings for you to view then and there. It also still allows you to make saves at notable moments, so you can experience all variations of the spicy scenes.

Personally, I really enjoy the artstyle. The devil is an incredibly handsome man, and the art style fits him well. According to the steam page, some CG was generated by AI and edited – but I really didn’t notice that much, personally. The CG essentially includes you and Devil in the different poses, each just as different and fun as the other. When in dialogue, spicy or otherwise, on screen are two character portraits which show facial expressions and reactions as dialogue progresses. It is a very nice touch, especially fun seeing the devil’s reactions as you progress.

Overall, I really enjoy Devil and Pitfall, and I am incredibly hopeful for the You’re special team as a whole. NSFW and Otome are not two things that go together often, and as someone who loves more mature content, it was great to see a fun little spicy experience in the Otome category. This will not be for everyone, as it isn’t about a deep and emotional story – it’s about just having fun with a devil, ready to take you all for himself. If you’re looking for such an experience, I would certainly recommend checking this one out. You’re Special have already announced they shall be working on their next game, so if you enjoy this experience – you know where to look next!
