Chill Pulse Review by Amjara
Chill Pulse is a productivity app paired with gaming elements. While being productive you can make cool drinks and collect pets all while listening to chill, lo-fi beats.
Gameplay & Features
This is another productivity app that is paired with gaming that is an ever-growing current trend that is popular right now. Below I will list some of my favourite elements;
- 4 unique backgrounds (3 to unlock) as you level up
- Make drinks unique to each location that will give you timed buffs to your xp gains & diamond count
- The fish will generate coins on occasion so check on them from time to time to collect them
- You can buy accessories, cute fish or new pets with the diamonds you earn in-game (no mtx)
- You can pet your pet! No bonuses in doing this, it is just cute when they react with hearts
- Cool lo-fi beats. I wish there was more selection but what is there sounds good
- You can write letters in-game and you may get a response from another player (I personally don't use this feature but it is cool for those who wish too).
- I love the sounds in this game (rain, fireplace, wind and birds) but they need more added.
- You can change the weather but the choices are minimal at the moment. However I love both snow and rain backdrops.
Tips and Tricks
- Go to your hub settings (Click the hub icon on the top right of your screen). It looks like an opened book. Go to the middle tab (settings) to click off the mouse-moving effect. No more bouncing around!
- You will only gain XP while the timer is ACTIVE. If you pause the timer you pause getting any XP.
- Diamonds are only earned once the timer ends. I have mine set to half hour increments with auto-restart turned on. I also set my alarm timer to off. And no break duration as I am running it in the background.
- While the timer is turned ON many activities are greyed out and only available when the timer is paused.
- Make sure if you leave this to run in the background your timer is ACTIVE and set to AUTO-RESTART.
- If you change location before your timer runs out it will reset the timer after loading into the new location and stop any drink buffs currently in use.
The Visuals & Audio
Visually the game is adorable, no question about that. Pixel art of a girl and her pet in a chill, relaxed, lo-fi setting. You cannot change the activity in the scene like some of the games in this genre (think Spirit City: Lofi Sessions).
You can change the scenes however which will change what your character is wearing and the environment. However in all the scenes the only activity your character will do is writing and the pet sleeping. The four scenes currently available are Lyon, France 2024 (the starter environment) followed by New Tokyo, Japan 2177, Chang an, China 685 and New York 1968.
The music is a great selection of very relaxing lo-fi beats. It is a very limited amount of songs so I would like to see a bigger catalogue offered in the future or some lo-fi albums. Currently you can not import any music from the web or your own collection. What is in the game is what is available.
Overall Experience
This is another cute addition to the ever-growing popular trend of productivity meets gaming apps. And like all those apps there are achievements attached to them that are simply a time sink. This one has some for 40 or 100 hours while the timer is active. It is an app for the most part that after achieving all the cool items you leave going in the background while you do other things. The app is still active and you can continue to gain xp, listen to the lo-fi beats and gain diamonds.
For the price this one hits the sweet spot. The locations & their drinks are a nice element that is unique to this particular app, the music sounds good although limited and the art adorable. ☕
