Lil Gator Game Review by Amjara
Lil Gator Game is a whimsical, charming game about a lil gator who uses his imagination to create a big adventure with all his friends he meets along the way!
The Story
You're
a lil gator who wants to have fun with their big sister, who is home
visiting from college but busy working on an assignment. However you
don't let that stop you from using your imagination to have fun and try
to convince your sister to join in. Lil Gator and his sister are really
into a video game called Legend of Hero (very Zelda inspired) so that is
where the adventure begins. You start off collecting a shield, a sword
and a hat to ready yourself for adventure.
There are some
emotional moments to this game as well. As you adventure you'll come
across memories you can access of the adventures past of Lil Gator and
his sister when they were younger and before his sister went off to
college.
Gameplay & Features
The
quests in this game are light rpg style quests. Find items, kill a few
monsters or run a race and then go back to the quest giver for your
rewards. The monsters in the game are made of cardboard and not real
monsters so there is no blood, gore or actual killing.
You meet
friends and explore the world using a variety of means. Climbing,
gliding in the air, or surfing using your trusty shield. You can use a
grapple hook made of a sticky hand or you can swim and run around. There
is also no health damage, fall damage or nothing to keep watch of
except your stamina meter.
As you meet friends around the island
and do quests for them they will give you recipes for new variants of
your sword, shield and glider. Some are cosmetic only and others will
give you unique effects like turning your shield bouncy so you bounce
all over the place when you use it as a sled.
Some things to
point out (that some may consider downfalls) are no map or quest log. So
you need to learn the map by landmarks to navigate. It does take some
time but eventually you will learn the layout of the map.
The
game does suggest playing with a controller but I played the full game
with keyboard and mouse with no issues. I had no crashes and no bugs or
glitches. My game experience was polished and flawless. If you do get
stuck however there is an option under settings that will get you
unstuck but I never had to use it myself.
The Visuals & Audio
Visually
this game is delightful. Colorful and vibrant hues set in an Autumn
setting. Warm colors contrast with the blue sky and bright sun that make
you happy while playing this game. Cozy and relaxing. As you run you
can hear the sounds of leaves rustling or water in the nearby stream.
The
soundtrack is fun and unimposing. Relaxing to listen too. There are no
voice overs in this game so all you really hear is the music. It goes
well with exploring and running around the map.
Overall Experience
I
honestly did not think too much of this game when I jumped in. I got it
for a good sale price and the reviews sounded promising. It is much
deserving of its praise. I had a blast running, gliding, swimming and
climbing. It was a fun game to get all the achievements and not rush
though. You could speed-run it but I liked taking my time. The humor in
the game is wholesome and the inspiration from Zelda games is endearing
(especially as a Zelda fan).
As for price, that is a personal
decision but for me the sale price (half off) was the sweet spot and I
did get 6 hours out of it going for all achievements. I see my
experience as complete and personally would not replay it but the time I
had with it was very enjoyable. It is a great game that everyone can
enjoy. ⚔️
