Stand By Me: Otome Isekai RPG Demo Review by Amjara

The Story & Gameplay

You wake to find that you are no longer yourself, but a sorceress in the royal military in the land of Una, specifically in the country of Desideria who is currently at war with Idris. The game is a blend of Otome with classic rpg elements. The game houses a choice-based battle system played out in comic strip style. The rpg element is done in the classic pixel art style but the sprites and cg arts themselves are beautifully hand drawn illustrations.

You can play with mouse and keyboard but the most responsive controls are the arrow keys for movement and the spacebar to interact with the environment and npc’s. Press “X” to enter the menu screen, and then press it again to go back to the game. You can save your progress at any time through manual saves or hitting the quicksave option.

This game does not support Steam overlay so it also does not support taking screen captures through Steam or having any other overlay features. Resolution and display are not options in the settings and I do not expect this to change due to the program used to make the game. If you play in windowed mode the window is very small (I am guessing-timating around 1366×768) and in full screen you will have black bars on the sides.

* A note on the menu design. At the moment the menus are very hard to read due to colour choice and icon sizing. These issues however are fixable and with the game still in development may change before it is complete. At the moment the chosen colours and sizing can cause eye strain.

Settings & Features

The settings are pretty minimal at the moment but it is only a demo. There are some settings for the rpg side of the game, lighting effects, keyboard config, and audio controls. Also the option to turn filter effects on or off. I see no options for either display or resolution settings.

You can hide the hud for screencaps but must use a third party app to capture them.

The Visuals & Audio

I really love the sprites in this game, the cg’s art is beautiful and the pixel art is well done. The blending of the two genres works well together. The music is instrumental, relaxing and pleasant.

I really hope they put an art gallery in the game to showcase all the gorgeous artworks

A sample of in-game art I put together from my screen captures in Photoshop.

Overall Experience

The cg arts are beautiful and the meshing of a classic rpg with an otome is refreshing. I found the characters to all be interesting and the narrative well written. The menu design does need some work but the resolution issues I believe are just inherent to the program they used to create the game. For some it will be important and for others not so much.💗
